Tamale Season Is Here!
For many families, Christmas time means it’s tamale time! Tamales are a tasty dish made out of corn based masa or dough and traditionally stuffed with meat wrapped in a corn husk and steamed to perfection. During the holidays, this delicious Mexican staple becomes highly coveted.
The tradition of tamales dates back to Meso-American times when, long before the Spaniards arrived, Mesoamericans believed that God created humans from corn. Because tamales are wrapped in corn husks, they became part of ritual offerings. In honor of this tradition, people prepare tamales for special occasions including baptisms, weddings, Dia del los Muertos, and, of course, Christmas to this day.
There’s also the long labor-intensive process of making tamales that brings friends and family together during the holidays. Preparing and smearing the masa, scooping all the ingredients, and individually wrapping each one can sometimes take hours, so people turn to their family and friends to help with the process while also providing a bonding experience.
However, not everyone has an assembly line of willing participants to help, nor the time needed to create the corn-based masterpiece, so we have tamales for purchase at our locations making it super easy for you to enjoy the holiday food!
